Microsoft Office Specialist Office 97 is a performance-based certification program that validates skills using Microsoft Office 97 products:

The Microsoft Office Specialist program provides computer program literacy, measures proficiency, and identifies opportunities for skills enhancement using business desktop computing products needed to work more productively and efficiently.  Microsoft Office Specialist certification satisfies a client's need for a qualitative assessment of a consultant's skills.

Recently, Microsoft announced a milestone, which demonstrates the popularity of the 4 year-old Microsoft Office Specialist program:  500,000 certificates issued.  In addition, Microsoft currently issues approximately 20,000 certificates per month.

Dale Rainwater holds a Microsoft Office Specialist Master certification, which is the highest level credential you can earn in the Microsoft Office Specialist Office 97 program.  A Microsoft Office Specialist Master demonstrates a breadth of productivity skills on key desktop programs by passing a combination of core and expert Microsoft Office Specialist exams developed from all the above Microsoft Office 97 products.
